Dr. Manuela Merli is an Associate Professor of Medicine in the Faculty of Medicine, Sapienza University of Rome, and has been working in the the Unit of Gastroenterology and Hepatology, University Hospital “Policlinico Umberto 1” since 1985. Since 1999, her main research topics are in the field of liver cirrhosis and liver transplantation with particular focus on nutrition and metabolism, portal hypertension, hepatic encephalopathy, and bacterial infections. In these fields she has been invited speaker in national and international Congress. She is member of the European Society of Liver Disease and honorary member of the European Society of Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition. Prof. Manuela Merli coordinates the Guidelines for Nutrition in Liver Disease for the European Society of Liver Disease, and is in the committee for the Guidelines for Nutrition in Liver Disease for the European Society of Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition. Prof Merli published 248 original articles in international peer reviewed journal and 37 book chapters in the field of gastroenterology and Hepatology (6530 citations, HI 44 in Scopus, May 2017).
